The course

We start with an hour indoors on the map: scales, contour lines and grid references. Then we head out onto the low fells to put it into practice, setting the map, picking out features and following a route from one to the next.

In the afternoon you’ll learn to take a bearing, walk on it and pace a distance, so you can find your way to a point you can’t see.

Who it’s for

Complete beginners and anyone who has always let someone else do the map reading. We provide maps, compasses and map cases.
